Isle Gemini CLI usage limits
Gemini CLI usage limits: daily quotas by plan, and how to check them
Gemini CLI’s limit depends less on what you pay than on how you signed in. Here is the daily quota for each sign-in method, the free way to check yours, and what Isle shows on top of that.
Daily quotas, by how you sign in
From Google’s Gemini CLI quotas and pricing page, checked on October 12, 2026.
| Sign-in | Plan | Requests per user per day |
|---|---|---|
| Google account | Gemini Code Assist for individuals (free) | 1,000 |
| Google AI Pro | 1,500 | |
| Google AI Ultra | 2,000 | |
| Gemini API key | Free tier | 250, Flash model only |
| Pay-as-you-go | Varies; paid per token | |
| Google Workspace | Code Assist Standard | 1,500 |
| Code Assist Enterprise | 2,000 | |
| Workspace AI Ultra | 2,000 | |
| Vertex AI | Express mode or pay-as-you-go | Varies |
- Per minute, too. Requests are also limited per user per minute, and depend on how busy the service is.
- Not every plan counts. Google lists Google AI Plus, and Workspace AI Standard and Plus, as not supported for higher Gemini CLI quotas.
- Out of requests? Google’s answer is to switch to an API key or Vertex AI and pay per token, the only setup it says won’t stop at a quota.
The free way to check: /stats model
Inside Gemini CLI, /stats model shows the token counts for the current session and the limits that apply to your quota (command reference). Gemini CLI also prints a summary of model usage when you exit. It costs nothing; like /status in Codex, it only tells you when you stop and ask. For the other assistants, see Codex usage limits and Cursor usage limits.
What Isle shows for Gemini, and what it doesn’t
Isle is a Mac app that turns the MacBook notch into an island. For Gemini it is honest about one gap: Google doesn’t publish an endpoint an app can read for the daily request count, so Isle doesn’t show it. Use /stats model for that. What Isle does:
- Counts your tokens. It adds up the tokens Gemini CLI recorded on your Mac (and OpenCode or Hermes, if you use Gemini through them), today and this month, without reading your API key.
- Fills a ring against your own budget. Google sets no cap for an API key, so you can type a monthly token budget in Settings and the ring fills against it.
- Follows the session. Isle notices when Gemini CLI is working, in the notch next to your other sessions.
- Antigravity quotas, if you use it. Google’s Antigravity editor gets its own ring with the limits it reports.
- The rest of your AI. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and more than 20 other services get rings too. See the full list.
Isle costs US$ 14.99 once for up to 3 Macs, after a 3-day free trial with every feature. It requires macOS 26. Besides AI, it has music, a timer, a file shelf and screenshots.
Questions
Is Gemini CLI free?
Yes, with a Google account: up to 1,000 requests a day on Gemini Code Assist for individuals, according to Google. A free API key gets 250, Flash only.
Does Isle send my Gemini usage anywhere?
No. The Gemini count is read from files on your Mac and nothing leaves it. Isle has no account and no analytics.
I have a Mac without a notch.
Islet waits in a small pill at the top of the screen; hover it and the whole island appears. See which Macs have a notch.
