Isle Cursor usage limits
Cursor usage limits on Mac: what’s left and when it resets
Cursor doesn’t count messages per hour like Codex or Claude Code. It gives you a monthly amount of usage, split in two pools. Here is how that works, where to check it, and how to keep it in sight while you code.
How Cursor usage works
From Cursor’s Models & Pricing docs and Usage and limits help page, checked on October 12, 2026. Cursor changes these terms often: the docs win over this page.
- Two pools. Paid plans include usage for Cursor Models (Cursor’s own models, such as Composer) and for Other Models (third-party models, charged at their API price).
- Auto is not free. Auto bills each request at the price of the model it was routed to, so it draws from whichever pool that model belongs to.
- Monthly, not hourly. Usage resets with your billing cycle. What you don’t use doesn’t roll over.
- When it runs out, you can turn on on-demand usage, billed at the same API rates, or upgrade your plan.

|---|---|---|---|
| What is limited | Monthly usage, in two pools | Messages per 5 hours (not on Pro) and per week | Usage per 5 hours and per week |

Because Cursor’s window is a month, the risk is different: you don’t get cut off for an afternoon, you burn the month in a week and switch to on-demand without noticing. More on the other two in Codex usage limits and AI usage limits in the notch.
Keep it in sight: Cursor in the notch
Isle is a Mac app that turns the MacBook notch into an island. Turn on Cursor in its Usage settings and you get a ring showing how much of your included usage is left. Open the AI tab and you see what Cursor reports for your plan, such as each pool and any on-demand spending, with the reset date.
- No second login. Isle reads the account already signed in to the Cursor editor on your Mac, or the
cursor-agentlogin if you only use the CLI. It doesn’t ask for your password. - Sessions, too. Isle notices when a Cursor agent is working and when it stops.
- Cursor next to the rest. Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, GitHub Copilot and more than 20 other services get rings too.
- Private. The usage check goes straight from your Mac to Cursor. Isle has no account and no analytics.
Isle costs US$ 14.99 once for up to 3 Macs, after a 3-day free trial with every feature. It requires macOS 26. Besides AI, it has music, a timer, a file shelf and screenshots.
Questions
Does Isle change my Cursor limits or plan?
No. It only reads them. On-demand usage is turned on or off in Cursor.
What if my plan has nothing metered?
Isle says so instead of showing an empty ring.
I have a Mac without a notch.
Islet waits in a small pill at the top of the screen; hover it and the whole island appears, rings included. See which Macs have a notch.
